After Villa Torlonia, our next stop was the Coppede District or Quartiere Coppede a whimsical, hidden architectural district located in the Trieste-Salario neighborhood around  Piazza Mincio. It’s buildings has a bizarre, theatrical mix of Art Nouveau (Liberty style), Art Deco, Baroque, Gothic, Medieval, Greek, and Roman influences.

The heart of the district, features the famous “Fountain of the Frogs” (where The Beatles famously jumped in fully clothed in 1965).

An arch spans the entrance featuring a large, ornate wrought-iron Gothic chandelier hanging from the arch.

Just a few steps from the Coppede District is the beautiful Church of Santa Maria Addolorata which is built in the Neo-Romanesque style.

Inside and on the altar is a depiction of the Pieta.
