A lot of us have not heard of an Ontario community called Cargill located in Bruce County. Cargill became the first village of its size in this part of Canada to have its own electric power and fire protection and opened its first post office on January 2, 1880. There were many thriving businesses in Cargill in the early 1900s. But today, Cargill has a population of less than 10,000 and is a very quiet town.

The historic Cargill Village Inn which is now closed.

Unique artworks line the main street sponsored by Ontario Power Generation.

There was a small coffee shop, an antique store and an art gallery showcasing works of local artists.

It seems like Cargill has been left by the world. But there is some hope. As we spoke to the lad who was manning the Dam Ice Cream Bar, we gathered that a native of Cargill has come back to revitalize the place. Starting with the art gallery, the bookstore, the ice cream bar and the visitor centre/museum. And that is not all, they have more plans. I wish to visit the place again and sip coffee while overlooking the Teeswater River.
