Watching hot air balloons being launched is in my bucket list. Just an item on the list, not really expecting to cross it out. But Georgia made it happen! Unexpectedly! It was not in our radar, but when I read that the 51st “Helen to the Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Race” will be held on our last day in Georgia, I was all in.
Woke up early (not as early as we wanted to) but still got ourselves ready for the 35 minute drive to the launch field.
Taken at 6:24 AM, roughly 30 minutes to launch time. Slow, slow, slow. Our mantra was “Let’s do it!”
A few minutes past 7 AM and we were still on the road but almost, almost there. We saw some balloons already up in the air. “No turning back, we are almost here”. People and vehicles shared a very narrow path along the field.
We made it! Worth waking up early and the drive.
Watching these colorful balloons going up (some did not, they were just for show) was so cool and surreal. One experience that made Georgia very unforgettable.
