In our first visit to Quebec’s Gaspesie Region, we were amazed at the number of lighthouses we passed by while cruising along Hiway 132. This should not be surprising as Gaspe is a peninsula along the St. Lawrence River and was the used for vessel transport in the early days. Here a few of the lighthouses we saw.
Cap Madeleine – constructed in 1908.
Matane Lighthouse – so easy to find as it is just beside the road. There is also a maritime museum at the guardhouse.
Cap-d’Espoir – very close to this lighthouse is the housekeeper’s assistant’s home and can be rented in any season.
The Cap-des-Rosiers lighthouse. Guilty for not giving this lighthouse the respect it deserved being Canada’s tallest. It was a hot summer day and we just came from the 8 km hike to see the Cape Gaspe lighthouse. We were hungry and thirsty and there was nothing nearby. Someone told us there is food available near this lighthouse. When we were near, I admit I had no excitement to take a photo as my mind was more on the burger stand. But as soon as we had our fill of water, soda and fries – I made it up and captured this tall 1858 beauty.
