These unique and colorful fish sculptures that can be found only in Walkerton, Ontario has been in my radar for a while. The reason for the subject of course is that Walkerton boasts some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in North America. No wonder the town commissioned local artists to create these 11 artful fish sculptures to decorate their streets.
Located at the corner of Jackson and Yonge St., this is titled “Mermaid Fish” although at first glance I thought this was an octopus.
A colorful one, titled “Farm Fish” nicely located in front of a Mac’s Convenience Store.
Twosome wanderers fronting “Catfish Songbird”. Shouldn’t it be the fish inside the cat’s tummy?
I love them all, but I think this is my favorite titled “Book Fish” fronting the Walkerton Public Library.
Lovely “Peacock Fish” by the Canadian Legion building. I just love how the eye and tail flow so well from the feathers.
Located at Lobies Park, this sculpture is titled “Kayak Fish”. The park has a short trail which provided rest on this hot summer day. Also, this one had a different but related design at the back.
The only hanging fish sculpture we found located adjacent to Walker’s Landing (a restaurant) and also titled “Hanging Fish”.
“Business Fish” at Best Western Union. I believe there is something “fishy” going on here. We may have missed the back part which could have more colors.
The last catch for the day was “Leafy Fish” at the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce.
Who would have thought fishing is this fun and colorful? There are 11 fish sculptures and we managed to catch only 9 for today. But for sure the 2 we missed are not the ones who got away.
