How we conquered Algonquin’s Mizzy Lake Trail.
And then came never ending kilometers of balancing logs to cross; stepping on stones and tree roots; avoiding water and mud. The trail ceased to be fun as all I kept doing was look at where my foot should be.
Time 3:05 PM . We have only reached halfway after 4.5 hours of walking. All the water we brought was gone and foot was starting to hurt.
Then it was back to 3 more kilometers of uphill climbs, side stepping and trying hard not to slip.
At 5:10 PM – I could not bring myself to look at the camera. I am sure I did not sign up for this!!
We were back at the parking lot at 5:30 pm. Found this sign at the entrance/exit of the trail. Something we totally missed in our excitement to start hiking! Sign clearly states Mizzy Lake Trail is an 11 kilometer loop that requires at least 6 hours to complete. We made it in 7 hours, including stops.
This was an unforgettable hike; some 23,000 FitBit steps to remember; a few lessons learned and foot blisters to endure for the day. We conquered Mizzy Lake Trail without even intending to.
But it was not all grueling and punishing – Mizzy Lake Trail had beauty worth all the pain. Next!
