If there is one scenic drive that I recommend to take in Massachusetts, it is by all means the Mohawk Trail. It is around 65 miles long east to west but can be taken in 2 separate drives or several days. There is so much to see along the route from museums, bridges, historic towns and of course colorful mountains along the curves and turns.

Mohawk Trail from the east starts with Williamstown which houses the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Museum (impressive museum we visited in 2017) and the Williams College Museum ( we missed their outdoor sculptures!). Photo below was part of the MASS MoCA exhibit also in Williamstown. MASS MoCA is also a must visit anytime you are in Massachusetts.

A little after the hairpin turn in North Adams was this scenic vista of Route 2.

The Whitcomb Summit and Elk Memorial, town of Florida. The highest point of the Mohawk Trail.

“Hail to the Sunrise” monument in Charlemont. “Hail to the Sunrise – In Memory of the Mohawk Indian.”

Bissell Covered Bridge in Charlemont. The original bridge was the first covered bridge in Massachusetts built in the 2oth century.

The famous Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne. When the bridge could no longer function as intended the Shelburn Falls Woman’s Club transformed the bridge into a garden. Shelburn Falls is also known for the Salmon Falls, with its glacial potholes and for being the setting of two major motion pictures (Labor Day, 2013 and The Judge 2014).

View from the King’s Bridge in Gill/Erving.

Inside Our Lady of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, Franklin County. With its hand carved altar and imported stained glass windows.

And we only covered half of the Mohawk Trail (Williamstown to South Deerfield). With so much to do and see in this scenic biway, the other half will have to wait for another day.
