I once thought mansions only existed in movies, until I set my foot on the Gilded Age Mansions in Newport, Rhode Island. A must see for architecture buffs, history lovers and for ordinary people like me – a must visit to feel awed, amazed, astounded. These photos were from the 4 mansions (The Breakers, The Marble House, The Rosecliff and The Elm) seen in 1 day. I apologize for the absence of detailed descriptions or identification for which mansion. There was too just too much to see and take in. It was a mind boggling and jaw dropping experience.
Bear in mind that despite the largeness of these mansions, they were only used during the summer months. The Breakers, the grandest of all the Newport mansions has 70 rooms and the mansion sits on the cliff that is overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
The Rosecliff Mansion was romantic and seemed to be built for entertaining with huge ballrooms. This mansion was used for the film The Great Gatsby, True Lies and 27 Dresses among others. To learn more, click here to visit The Gilded Mansions official website.
