St. Mary’s Church was the first Roman Catholic parish established in the state of Rhode Island in 1828. On September 12, 1953 St. Mary’s Church was the setting of the wedding of then Jacqueline Lee Bouvier to then-Senator John Fitzgerald Kennedy (later the 35th President).

On this first trip to Rhode Island here is a church worthy to be visited.

Nothing grandiose nor spectacular but the church has unspoken simplicity and serenity.

The altar was stunningly beautiful filled with red poinsettias.

Waking up early to attend the early 7:30 morning mass in this church was one of our unforgettable experience at Rhode, Island.

St. Mary’s Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
