Rhode Island is known for lighthouses obviously because the state is composed of around 30 islands and long coastline. But the lighthouses are difficult to locate. Some are already privately owned, others are under re-construction while others can only be found in certain islands. After failed attempts with one lighthouse, we found the Beavertail Lighthouse at the State park with the same name.
The Beavertail Lighthouse by itself is not impressive although it is the premier lighthouse of Rhode Island. What makes the lighthouse and state park attractive to everyone is its location. The lighthouse sits on the southernmost point of Conanicut island on some kind of a hill with huge stones all around. Gusts of winds can be felt while walking along the trail that surrounds the lighthouse while strong sea currents can be seen down below.
We were told that at sundown, when you are lucky you get to see a beautiful Jamestown sunset. A lighthouse and a sunset, just perfect!
When even got to meet friendly native Rhode Islanders.
A delightful, lovely day at Jamestown, Rhode Island.
