For actually stepping foot on Monaco soil we had to take small boats (called tenders) from the cruise ship to the port. The viator tour we booked at this port brought us criss-crossing between France and Monaco via numerous tunnels. Traveling with 5 other tourists we passed by Antibes and Nice.

Then we reached Cannes. (Pronounced like something in between Ken and can. French do not pronounce s when it is at the end of the word.) A city I have dreamed to visit with my son, watch movies and maybe catch a movie star or two.

Le Grand Carrousel. This two-storey carousel is located at the Reynaldo Hahn Square on the sea front next to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. The carousel offers horses, carriages and many other rides. It is decorated with images depicting Cannes’ most famous landmarks: la Croisette, Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, the Port, the Suquet (old town), the InterContinental Carlton Hotel, among others.

Now that I have seen the city, the glamorous Carlton Hotel that houses the stars, the beach right across the hotel and the swanky boutiques along the streets I think the dream will remain a dream. And all I got was a souvenir shirt and a fridge magnet!!
