There are actually 2 trails for the Cavan Monaghan Barn Quilts. One is to be followed while driving, the other can be done while walking as the quilts are within the main street area of Millbrook.
The walking tour around 30 minutes to complete. Plenty of time to have coffee and sweets at the Pastry Peddler.
“Thorneview” at 23 Tupper St., Millbrook – based on the traditional pattern, Carpenter’s Star but along with the star, the border was doubled and the colours were manipulated to create a 3 dimensional effect.
“Hole in the Barn Door” at 3 Bank Street North, Millbrook – This block celebrates the Barn Owls, a quilting group that still meets regularly.
“Carpenter’s Home” 9 King Street East, Millbrook – aptly installed on the outside wall of Home Hardware building.
“Remembrance Poppy” at 13 King St. East, Millbrook – mounted at the Royal Canadian Legion building.
Quilt on this post’s header is “Sampler Quilts” – found at the Millbrook South Cavan Public School, 47 Tupper St. created by 28 students ages 9- 10 students.
Twosome Wanderings have done barn quilt trails in other areas of Ontario, but we have to say Millbrooks’ trails are the easiest and the most fun to do. The blocks are easy to find and photograph. Except for 1 or 2, most blocks are placed in a spot that does not intrude owners privacy. It was a real delight chasing the beautiful barn quilts around Millbrook and its neighboring areas. Another enjoyable twosome wanderings. For more of the Cavan Monaghan Block Quilts Driving Trail, click here.
